What is Taylor’s Tiny Farm?
Let’s start with Taylor. Taylor is the inspiration for our
tiny farm in the city. He is a tiny toddler who loves to play in the dirt and
has already planted his first radishes, kale, and garlic. He also happens to be
my son.
Who am I? I’m Susan, the author of this blog and the creator
of Taylor’s Tiny Farm. The “Farm” is a less-than-quarter-acre chunk of backyard
in the city of Ogden. When we moved in, there was literally 2 tons of garbage left
in the yard and house. We know because we had to pay by the pound to deposit it
at the dump. Since cleaning things up, we’ve been working steadily to build our
own little homestead here in the heart of Utah.
Currently, we have a mature Black Walnut tree, over 300
square feet of annual raised beds, and several berry bushes and plants. Soon,
we’ll be adding hazelnuts, more berry bushes, and chickens – because a farm
really isn’t a farm until there are chickens. After that? Stay posted, I have
some big dreams for our tiny farm.
Our Goal
Have an urban mini-farm that improves our quality of life
with high quality food, meaningful work, joyful family togetherness, and
community connections. Community is where this blog comes into play. Here, I
hope to share our journey mini-farming in a mini-city. I’ll be posting lessons
learned in the garden and in the kitchen, as well as highlighting community
connections right here in Ogden.
Feel free to join our community, write in comments or
questions, and share your own stories. We’d love to hear from you!
Sincerely,
Taylor’s Tiny Farm Family
So happy to find you here and look forward to following the farm as it grows. Take care. Bob
